Brief of Product
Aluminum alloy is widely applied in engineering structure. Alloy system is classified in numerical system (ANSI) or with the name to indicate main composition of alloy (DIN and ISO).When selecting a correct alloy for a specific application shall consider the strength, ductility, formability, weldability, corrosion resistance and some other features.
Features of Aluminum Materials
- Light weight: Weight of aluminum is only 1/3 of iron or steel of same size; however, the rigidity dropped also 2/3 at the same time. So, if replacing a parts of iron or steel directly and applied acceptable force, though would not cause destruction but aluminum flexibility would cause the parts with 3 times of deflection.
- Corrosion resistance: In natural environment, aluminum tends to form a thin oxide film on the surface and it will block oxygen in the air.
- Formability: With full or partial annealing, we can produce soft aluminum alloy and is suitable for all kinds of forming process.
- Strength: In alloy addition, re-rolling and heat-treatment processes, aluminum sheet of different strengths can be produced to meet purposes of different strength requirements.
- Flexibility: A structural limit of aluminum alloy is the fatigue and steel has higher fatigue limit (theoretically, it can sustain indefinite times of cyclic load). Fatigue limit of aluminum is close to zero, which means it will ultimately destroyed, even in very limited cyclic load can destroy it; however, small stress could be sustained for very long time
- Thermal conductivity: Very good, but it is relatively extreme in thermal sensing. Unlike steel that when it is about to melt, it will turn bright red, but before melting, aluminum gives no same or similar sign. When aluminum is over-heated, it subjects to internal pressure and tensile and such pressure normally will lead to delayed twisting.
- Low temperature brittleness: Under ultra low temperature, there is no low temperature brittleness existed. Not like ordinary carbon steel.
- Workability: Aluminum material can be processed into rod, wire, extrusion for all kinds of purposes. Extrusion is the highest usage portion in aluminum.
